There is no magic to mixing the ingredients, and no particular order in which they should be added. A large glass or pottery bowl is a good container for blending. White or a light color makes it easier to see what the colors look like together, but that is not essential.
If you are following a recipe exactly, you can mix the entire batch at once, adding the amount specified for each ingredient. But if you are creating a blend of your own, you might want to begin by mixing in a spoonful of each to see how all of the elements look and smell together, If you like the combination you can add more, but if you donīt you wonīt have used a lot of ingredients. Also, if one scent seems to overpower the others, you can dilute it by adding more of other flowers or herbs in the blend.
When you have made a blend that you like, mix it well and seal in a jar with plenty of air space. Shake or stir it daily for two weeks to allow it to blend and ripen, After that, your potpourri is ready to display and enjoy. |
