Garlic Chives

garlichiveAllium sativum

Very similar to normal chives but, as their name suggests, have a distinct garlic flavor. They are part of the same botanical family as garlic, onions, leeks and shallots and can be added to salads and other uncooked dishes that benefit from a garlicky taste. Unlike other chives, they do not spread in the garden. The slender green stalks are flatter than those of ordinary chives and the bulbous flowers are paler in color.

Garlic chives grows to a height of 6-10 in and will grow in ordinary garden soil. They can also be grown indoors in pots and are suitable for window boxes.

Chives grow in think clumps and can be used as edging plants. Are easy to freeze - simply cut stalks in plastic bags and place in the freezer.
