Transform a plain, everyday wooden coat hanger into something special. The small hearts hanging from it are filled with dried lavender which has a dual purpos You will need: Wooden coat hanger 1- Cover the coat hanger with strips of wadding. Wrap them around the hanger like a bandage until it is well padded. Secure the ends of the wadding with a few small stitches. 2- Cut a piece of fabric 10 X 1 1/2 in. Fold in half lengthwise, with right sides facing, and stitch across one end. 3- turn the fabric right side out and stitch along the long edge with a simple running stitch. Garther the fabric sleeve by pulling the threads gently. Slip the sleeve over the coat hanger hook and attach at the base to the wadding with a few stitches. 4- Cut a piece of fabric 24 X 6 in. fold in half lengthwise, wrong sides facing. Fold a 1/2 in hem and press along the fold line. Sew up the two short ends. 5- Slip the fabric sleeve over the padding, with the open edge uppermost. Pin the top seams together, making sure the fabric is evenly gathered along the length of the coat hanger. Stitch the seam 1/4 if from the top edge. 6- Cut four hearts of the same size from the remaining piece of fabric. Place two hearts, right sides facing, and sew together, leaving a small opening in the center of the top. Turn right sides out, fill the heart with lavender and complete the seam. Attach a length of ribbon and a decorative button. Repeat to make the other heart, but attach a slightly shorter piece of ribbon. |
