Linen Sachet

linensachetThese fabric envelopes are filled with a mixture of wadding and dried moth repellant herbs, including southernwood, mint, tansy and thyme. Add dried roses petals or lavender for a floral perfume, or dried crushed cloves for a spicier scent. Place these sachets in a linen chest or cupboard to keep moths at bay.

You will need:

    Pretty cotton or linen handkerchiefs
    Matching thread
    Scraps of wadding
    Beads, to decorate (optional)
    Dried herb mixture (as above)

1- Iron the handkerchiefs and press the four corners into the center, overlapping the edges slightly, to form an envelope. If the handkerchief has an embroidered corner, use this as the top flap.

2- Sew together the bottom and two side edges with a small running stitch. If you wish, decorate the top flap with pretty beads and sequins.

3- Fill the envelope with the wadding and herb mixture. The top flap can be stitched down to secure the contents.

4- The larger sachet is made with a length of embroidered linen, such as a tray cloth. Fold the cloth into three and stitch the sides of the bottom and middle sections together to form an envelope. The embroidered top section folds over to enclose the wadding and herbs.
